Sports Relief 2012

On Friday 23rd March, Bressingham Primary School took part in Sports Relief Walk a Mile, based on the London 2012 Olympics. We all dressed up in red and white to represent the colour of Sports Relief. For our warm up, we danced to some music with Ms Coulter. Everyone enjoyed it and we danced to YMCA and Cha Cha Slide Part 2. We all walked, jogged and ran around the football pitch 12 times which made 1 mile, except for Class 1 who did a smaller Circuit. Thanks to the BSA for refreshments afterwards. We all paid £1 to dress up in red and white. Altogether including many sponsors by many parents and families we made an incredible total of £706! It was the biggest amount we had ever made! We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help. Thank you all for bringing in the money. With a special thank you to School Council, Ms Coulter and Mrs Palmer. Everyone had so much fun but they were very exhausted after the run.

Duxford Report by James Gooderham

On Tuesday 20th March 2012 Class 4 went to the Duxford Imperial War Museum to study more about World War 2. When we arrived there, we went inside the Concorde plane. It wasn’t very big and it only had 35 passenger seats and you could see the controls for the plane from where you were sitting.

After the Concorde, we went into the Learning room with our teacher Peter to find out about weapons, games, rationing, sheltering and more. In the weapons area there were many things to use for fighting. We watched a clip about some battles. In the mystery item area, there was a big box with something in it. We were not allowed to look inside so we had to use our sense of touch. It was a tank helmet inside. We also had little bags with mystery stuff in it. We could look at them but it was tough to find out what they were. In the food area, we learnt about rationing and trying to make food last a week. In the games area, they had no electronic games; they had a game similar to pinball. We also saw some toy trains and planes. In the sheltering area, we saw a Morrison shelter which is a small cage that would fit into your house and you would probably bump your head. The shelter was made out of hard steel. In the flag signal area, we learnt how to use flag signals to direct people around the sea.

In the sitting room, it looked a little like a modern living room except some of the furniture. We had to spot stuff that they didn’t have in the 1940’s. After that we went to the Operation room where they could talk to people in planes.

Then we went to have lunch in the lunch room where there was World War 2 cartoons on the wall. Next we went to the Battle of Britain room where you could see loads of planes used in the Battle of Britain. We saw a man standing next to a plane used in the battle and it looked like he was saluting someone. We noticed two ambulances and one of them had a cloth on the back instead of doors. There was an Anderson shelter made out of concrete. We saw some guns as well in a glass case. After a while we were getting ready to go home and then we went home.
